SoCal Art Opportunities ("SoCal Art Opportunities," "we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we share it with service providers and advertising partners, and the choices available to you. This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through the SoCal Art Opportunities newsletter, our Beehiiv-hosted website, our Squarespace website, subscription and contact forms, surveys, and other online interactions with SoCal Art Opportunities.
We may collect information that you voluntarily provide, including:
Email address, when you subscribe to the SoCal Art Opportunities newsletter.
Name and email address, when you voluntarily submit information through our Squarespace contact form.
Information about your artistic practice, such as the type of art you make, if you voluntarily provide that information through a survey associated with our newsletter.
Messages and other information you provide when you contact us.
Subscription information, such as whether you have a free or paid subscription and information relating to your subscription.
We do not intentionally request your ZIP code or precise geographic location as part of our newsletter signup process.
When you visit our Beehiiv-hosted website or interact with our emails, certain information may be collected automatically by Beehiiv and by third-party technologies used on the website. This information may include:
IP address;
approximate geographic location;
browser and device information;
operating system;
referring website or URL;
pages viewed;
dates and times of visits;
links clicked;
information about interactions with our website and emails; and

Beehiiv may associate certain automatically collected information with your subscriber profile. Depending on the services and features we use, this may include information such as IP address, general location, device information, acquisition information, email opens and clicks, and responses to surveys or polls.

provide and deliver the SoCal Art Opportunities newsletter;
manage free and paid subscriptions;
process and administer premium subscriptions;

We use Beehiiv to manage and deliver the SoCal Art Opportunities newsletter. When you subscribe, your email address is provided to Beehiiv so that we can deliver the newsletter and manage your subscription. Our emails may contain technologies that allow us and Beehiiv to determine whether an email was delivered, opened, or interacted with. We may use this information to understand audience engagement and improve our newsletter. You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in our emails.
Our welcome email may contain an optional survey asking subscribers about the type of art they make. We use the Meta Pixel and related Meta advertising technologies on our Beehiiv-hosted website. The Meta Pixel helps us understand how visitors interact with our website and measure the effectiveness of our advertising.
We use the Meta Pixel to track certain actions visitors take on our Beehiiv-hosted website. For example, we may use the Pixel to record when a visitor successfully subscribes to our newsletter by reaching a subscription confirmation or "thank you" page. This allows us to measure how effectively our advertising campaigns result in newsletter subscriptions and to improve our advertising.
We may also use information from our newsletter subscriber list, including email addresses, to create Custom Audiences on Meta's advertising platform. This allows us to advertise SoCal Art Opportunities to people who are not already subscribers or otherwise measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns. When using Meta's customer-list audience tools, information may be transformed into a hashed format before being provided to Meta for matching. Meta states that its customer-list Custom Audience terms require advertisers to have the necessary rights and permissions to use and disclose the information for this purpose. We do not receive information from Meta identifying the individual people who comprise a Custom Audience.
Depending on how you interact with our website and advertisements, Meta may receive or process information such as online identifiers, IP address, device information, website activity, advertising interactions, and information used to match individuals with advertising audiences. Meta's processing of information is also governed by Meta's own privacy policies and terms.
Our Beehiiv-hosted website may use cookies, pixels, web beacons, scripts, and similar technologies operated by Beehiiv and third parties. These technologies may be used to:
operate and secure the website;
understand website usage;
measure advertising performance;
track conversions;
support advertising and audience measurement; and
improve our website and services.
You can control certain cookies through your browser settings. Blocking or deleting cookies may affect some website functionality.
Premium subscriptions to SoCal Art Opportunities are processed through Stripe, a third-party payment processor. When you purchase a premium subscription, Stripe may collect and process information necessary to process your payment and manage your subscription, including payment and transaction information. We do not receive or store your complete payment card number through our newsletter systems. Stripe's handling of payment information is governed by Stripe's own privacy practices and policies.
Our separate Squarespace website provides a contact form through which visitors may voluntarily send us messages. If you submit the contact form, we may receive the information you provide, which may include your:
name;
email address; and
message or other information included in your submission.
We use this information to respond to your inquiry and for other purposes reasonably related to communicating with you.
We may share personal information with service providers that help us operate SoCal Art Opportunities. These service providers may include:
Beehiiv, for newsletter delivery, subscriber management, website hosting, analytics, and related services;
Meta, for advertising, Custom Audiences, conversion tracking, and advertising measurement;
Stripe, for payment processing and premium subscription management;
Squarespace, for website hosting and contact-form functionality; and
other service providers that assist with website hosting, security, communications, or business operations.
These service providers may process information on our behalf or, depending on the service and applicable terms, process information independently according to their own privacy policies. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to:
comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request;
protect our rights or property;
prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents;
enforce our agreements; or
protect the safety of our users or others.
We do not sell your personal information to data brokers.
The SoCal Art Opportunities newsletter and website may contain links to third-party websites, including websites operated by organizations offering grants, residencies, exhibitions, jobs, calls for art, and other opportunities. When you follow a link to a third-party website, that website's privacy practices and terms apply to your interaction with that website. SoCal Art Opportunities does not control the privacy practices, security, or data collection practices of third-party websites. The inclusion of an opportunity, organization, business, or website in the SoCal Art Opportunities newsletter or website does not mean that SoCal Art Opportunities endorses that organization or guarantees its practices.
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide our services, administer subscriptions, communicate with subscribers, maintain appropriate business records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, comply with legal obligations, and fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. If you unsubscribe from the newsletter, we may retain certain information associated with your previous subscription for legitimate business, legal, security, or recordkeeping purposes. We may also retain information in accordance with the retention practices of our service providers. When personal information is no longer reasonably necessary for these purposes, we may delete or anonymize it, subject to applicable legal and operational requirements.
SoCal Art Opportunities is intended for a general audience and is not directed toward children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe that a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, please contact us so that we can take appropriate steps to delete the information.
You may unsubscribe from the SoCal Art Opportunities newsletter at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in our emails. You may also control certain cookies and advertising technologies through your browser or device settings. You may contact us at any time using the contact information below if you have questions about the personal information we maintain about you or how we use your information. Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have additional privacy rights, including rights relating to access, deletion, correction, or opting out of certain forms of targeted advertising or data sharing. We may use subscriber email addresses to create advertising audiences on platforms such as Meta. We take reasonable measures appropriate to the nature of the information we handle to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure. However, no method of transmitting or storing information electronically is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our business, services, technology, service providers, or applicable legal requirements. When we make changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
