Here’s the latest SoCal Art Open Calls

  • Summary: “The City of Signal Hill is seeking to commission an artist to create an original, two-dimensional, site-specific outdoor mural painting to be displayed on a brick wall at Hillbrook Park next to the playground. The artwork should be appropriate for public community spaces. The artwork must be durable, low-maintenance, resistant to UV damage, graffiti resistant, and suitable for placement on city-owned property.”

  • Summary: “The Los Angeles Makery invites artists living/working in Los Angeles County to submit work for Los Angeles Assemblage, a group exhibition celebrating the eclectic, gritty, and poetic tradition of assemblage art. Rooted in a city defined by fragments, reinvention, and layers, this show seeks works that transform found objects, or repurposed items into provocative, soulful statements. We’re looking for art that speaks from—and to—Los Angeles: its textures, its contradictions, its cast-offs, its dreams.”

  • Exhibition Dates: 9/4/25 - 9/28/25

  • Mediums: Assemblage work that incorporates found, salvaged, or non-traditional materials.

  • Entry Fee: $25

  • Summary: “Author Jack London’s iconic book made this phrase famous. Let’s take it to an art level! Any art that celebrates nature...hiking, landscapes, the wilderness, or bodies of water is eligible. Any artwork that calls our attention to the animals of the wild—bears, wolves, tigers, elephants—is also eligible. If you want to go “wild” with color or textures or papers—bring it!”

  • Location: Art on 30th, San Diego

  • Exhibition Dates: 8/30/25 - 9/26/25

  • Mediums: All 2D artworks are welcome as well as any 3D artwork (glass/ceramic sculpture) that fits on a pedestal.

  • Summary: “In the spirit of the exhibition’s attempt to both imagine a world where no queer person feels ashamed for who they love and explore the nuances of human connection, this call seeks to highlight and demand visibility for LGBTQ+ voices, while celebrating an authentic experience of life, rooted in joy that is both specific to the queer community and universal.”
