Here’s the latest SoCal Art Open Calls

  • Summary: “Inspired by our current series of the same name, we're excited to announce our August-September lobby art show: Technicolor Summer. Which meannnnnns we’re inviting all SoCal artists to create a piece inspired by a film made using the Technicolor process! While there's no size/medium constraints, no pieces using AI in any way, shape, or form, will be accepted.”

  • Deadline: 7/25/25

  • Location: The Frida Cinema, Santa Ana

  • Exhibition Dates: August-September 2025

  • Mediums: All

  • Entry Fee: No fee

  • Summary: “LAWA is seeking to commission murals for display for a minimum of two years and a maximum of five years on prominent walls in the terminals at LAX. The selected artists will design murals that welcome the public to LAX; enhance and humanize the travel experience; reflect the identity and diversity of Los Angeles; and advance Los Angeles’ reputation as the culture capital of the world. Up to ten (10) finalists will be selected and artists will each be awarded a commission within a range of $14,000 to $38,000.”

  • Deadline: 7/30/25

  • Location: LAX

  • Mediums: Artworks painted directly on the wall or onto panels or other durable substrate in the artist’s studio to be installed onto the wall; digitally reproduced new or existing artworks onto canvas, vinyl or other durable material appropriate for mural printing and installation; or mixed-media works. Acceptable mixed-media materials could include photography, textiles, paper, and wood.

  • Entry Fee: No fee

  • Summary: “San Diego Art Directory in partnership with Hera Hub Carlsbad—a women-focused coworking and entrepreneurial community led by transformational coach Lisane Basquiat—invites artists to submit to "Utopian Her", a bold exhibition imagining feminist futures, collective liberation, and radical joy. Rooted in Hera Hub’s mission of empowering women through connection, creativity, and business growth, this exhibition offers a platform to explore visionary and unapologetic expressions of hope, rebellion, healing, and future-building. We invite artists of all backgrounds and identities to submit works that imagine and embody bold, utopian possibilities through a feminist lens.”

  • Location: Hera Hub, Carlsbad

  • Exhibition Dates: August 2025 – January 2026 (estimated installation date is 8/15)

  • Mediums: All

  • Entry Fee: $22 for up to 2 pieces

  • Summary: “The purpose of “Art About Agriculture” is to promote awareness of agriculture by using art to explore its many facets—from workers to water, from machinery to fields, and to the food that fills our plates. “Art About Agriculture” is a juried, group show open to all artists over the age of 18 working in any two- or three-dimensional medium who create art that in some way draws its inspiration from our agricultural heritage and/or contemporary agriculture.”

  • Deadline: 9/12/25

  • Location: Santa Paula Art Museum, Santa Paula

  • Exhibition Dates: 11/15/25 - 3/8/26

  • Mediums: Any 2d or 3d medium

  • Entry Fee: $50 for up to 3 entries

  • Summary: “In recognition of a long-standing tradition between artists and our national parks, Joshua Tree National Park Council for the Arts created an annual art exposition in 2013, with a juried exhibition featuring art depicting or inspired by the natural aspects of Joshua Tree National Park or its cultural history. The exhibition is displayed at the historic 29 Palms Art Gallery at the Oasis of Mara, next to park headquarters.”

  • Deadline: 9/15/25

  • Location: 29 Palms Art Gallery, Twentynine Palms

  • Exhibition Dates: 11/1/25 - 11/30/25

  • Mediums: 2D paintings and works on paper, photography, and 3D works

  • Entry Fee: $35 for up to 3 artworks
