Thank you so much to everyone who filled out last week’s survey about your current marketing practices. I included it again below for anyone who didn’t get a chance to fill it out and are looking to get better at building an audience around your art and effectively communicating with them. I’m excited to create something that I think could help a lot of you!

Here’s the latest SoCal Art Open Calls!

  • Summary: “The Stough Canyon Nature Center will be hosting its first ever art exhibition titled, We heART Nature. The City of Burbank Parks and Recreation Department strives to offer a variety of art experiences and opportunities throughout the local arts community. The purpose of We heART Nature is to offer another opportunity for artists to showcase their artwork in a unique setting celebrating the theme nature.”

  • Deadline: 1/10/25

  • Location: Stough Canyon Nature Center, Burbank

  • Exhibition Dates: 2/21/25 - 3/16/25

  • Mediums: All

  • Entry Fee: $10

  • Summary: “All local artists are invited to create a piece inspired by their favorite pre-1970 black & white classic, with no size/medium constraints”

  • Deadline: 1/23/25

  • Location: The Frida Cinema, Santa Ana

  • Exhibition Dates: Feb - March 2025

  • Mediums: All

  • Entry Fee: No fee

  • Summary: “The Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture’s Civic Art Division invites artists or artist teams to submit qualifications to design, fabricate and oversee installation of a sculpture or sculptures for the entry plaza of the Environmental Justice Center, which will welcome visitors to the future Puente Hills Landfill Park.”

  • Deadline: 1/30/25

  • Location: Puente Hills Landfill Park

  • Exhibition Date: September 2026 - TBD

  • Mediums: Sculpture

  • Entry Fee: No fee

  • Summary: "Save the Ocean 5 is a popular regional cash award show highlighting the excellence of local artists. This art and poetry exhibition celebrates the richness and diversity of the ocean environment by welcoming a variety of mediums from a full range of demographics to share their experience about the ocean world. We curate the creative contributions from visual artists, poets and the musicians at our reception, to offer the community a diverse oceanic experience. Front Porch Gallery in collaboration with Surfing Madonna Oceans Project endeavors to promote a love for and understanding of the fragile coastal environment by encouraging people to be stewards and caretakers of the ocean, to appreciate what we have and preserve it for future generations. What better way to do that than to have our artistic experts show us their inspiring creations based on the energy and stories they see when expressing the ocean environment.”

  • Summary: “This exhibition is not strictly themed, but artists are encouraged to submit abstract or figurative work that explores the vibrancy and vitality of the core elements—earth, air, fire, and water—that shape the world around us. The exhibition aims to evoke the raw, powerful essence of these elements, revealing their interconnectedness with life and the environment. The elemental theme highlights how these fundamental components permeate our daily existence, inspire creativity, and foster growth, yet also have the capacity for destruction and transformation.”

  • Deadline: 3/5/25

  • Location: Sparks Gallery, San Diego

  • Exhibition Dates: 5/2/25 - 6/30/25

  • Mediums: 2D artwork maximum dimensions: 60” high x 60” wide, 3D artwork maximum dimensions: Must be able to fit through a double-door entrance 90" H x 69" wide.

  • Entry Fee: $20 (Scholarships are available, please contact [email protected] if you would like to be considered for a scholarship.) Artists must be a current OMA member with the Artist Alliance affiliate membership add-on. Artists who are not members of the OMA with the Artist Alliance add-on but are interested in participating in this exhibition must become members of OMA at any level and add Artist Alliance before submitting artwork for consideration.
